Eco-Action Lake Winyah

Dec 10, 2006
We all met up at about 2:30pm. The Lake is behind Florida Hospital on Princeton. I have been to this lake a few times, but there was a lot of construction and roads were closed, so I got a little lost trying to get to the lake. Beth did email us how to get around the construction, but I forgot them in my email.

There were 8 of us there in all. I saw about 4 new faces and one, Carl, who said he remembered me from a past cleanup, but I couldn't remember him. Beth went with the new people, who I think were some students from UCF, to the right side of the launching area. The rest of us took the left side.

I kept finding lots of clear plastic bags that turned green and 2 big sheets of bubble wrap. Then there were the occasional bottles and cans, and cigarette filters. I struck up a conversation with Carl, about who uses these filters, because I see them a lot at cleanups, but never actually see anyone using them. He mentioned some cigar companies include them with their cigars.

We were out for about 2 hours and started heading back in when some drizzle started. The lake did have a good amount of trash, but we were only able to get to about 30% of it. There was a lot of muck along the shore, so it made it difficult to get the canoes through it. I personally had to use the pole to pull some of it in.

Here are some pictures of the group:
