Train to Napoli, Stamping of the Ticket and Fiats

Sep 16, 2007

At this point in my story I haven’t taken any pictures yet. You’ll have to go to the Capri part and stories afterward to see some.

So the 3 hour trip to Napoli was somewhat uneventful. The car I was in was empty and there were no more than 3-4 passengers there at a time. It was a regional train, so stopped every 15-20 minutes at small towns and because of this my ticket only cost $10 Euro.

About 30 minutes into the trip the train conductor came by to check tickets. He started asking me something in Italian and I just had a blank look. He must have been used to the look, because he quickly realized I didn’t speak Italian and spoke in English. He explained I was supposed to get my ticket stamped at Roma Termini and scribbled something on it. I knew about the stamp part before, but was reminded of it at the teller and didn’t see anything obvious for me to stamp it. I was actually glad he said something; because at that point I wasn’t 100% sure I was even on the right train.

Along the trip I saw some mountains, farms and lots of Fiats, which seemed to be the car of choice in Italy…at least in the southern regions. I wanted to doze off a few times, but didn’t want to risk missing my stop or someone snatching my luggage. The Naples stop ended up being the last stop, so I would have been ok snoozing a bit.
